چکیده
Many distributed multimedia applications involve data delivery from a source to multiple destinations, the participating nodes forming a multicast group. In the naive solution, a separate connection can be established from the source to other group nodes. However, better solutions have been devised. A tree can be established for each source with the participants as the leaf nodes or just have one tree spanning all the participants. There are several advantages of having a single tree for the multicast group. In this paper, we introduce a model for supporting shared multicast trees over the ATM networks when the number of sources are bounded. Our work will allow the proposed wide area multicast protocols (like CBT and PIM) which allow leaf node initiated joins to be used on ATM networks.

IP Multicast Support in MPLS
Multicast support in a Multipro-tocol Label Switching (MPLS) network has yet to be deened. An MPLS network consists of label switching devices such as ATM. This document discusses both dense-mode and sparse-mode IP multicast within the context of MPLS networks. Unlike unicast routing, dense-mode multicast routing trees are established in a data-driven manner and it is not possible to topologica...
متن کاملMulticast computer network routing using genetic algorithm and ant colony
Due to the growth and development of computer networks, the importance of the routing topic has been increased. The importance of the use of multicast networks is not negligible nowadays. Many of multimedia programs need to use a communication link to send a packet from a sender to several receivers. To support such programs, there is a need to make an optimal multicast tree to indicate the opt...
متن کاملMobile multicasting in wireless ATM networks
Multicasting is a desired function in both wired and wireless networks. Currently, multicasting-based applications have pervasive presence and influence in our Internet. Wireless ATM aims to support different traffic types over a high speed wireless network. In particular, traditional approaches towards multicasting in wired networks cannot be directly applied to mobile ATM networks. This inclu...
متن کاملProviding Network Survivability to ATM Group Communications Via Self - Healing Survivable Rings
In this paper we examine the potential bene ts of dedicated backup route(s) to provide survivability for ATM group communications. Specifically we examine the feasibility of providing survivability using working multipoint routes with disjoint dedicated backup multipoint routes where the multipoint routes are setup using either Virtual Rings, shared multicast trees, or VC Mesh groups. We introd...
متن کاملEfficient Support for Multicast Applications over VP-Based ATM Networks
In this paper, we present a new network design problem that is applicable for designing virtual paths (VP’s) in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network to efficiently support multicast applications, especially real-time multimedia applications. We first address several alternatives for the solution and compare their properties. Then we focus on a new solution which sets up a semi-permanent ...
